My family moved a lot when I was growing up.
I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to just grow up in 1 place and have the same friends all the way from preschool through high school.
But I’ll never know.
I just counted and I’ve moved approximately 32 times in my life!
Here are the states I’ve lived in:
Oklahoma
Illinois (x2)
Texas (x3)
Kansas
California
Connecticut
New York
Colorado (x2)
Virginia
And no, my Dad was not in the military. I get that question a lot!
Here’s what I learned from moving so many times:
How to make friends quickly
I love to get to a know a new town or city
Being the new girl is scary
How to trust myself
Saying goodbye is hard
How to be flexible/adjust to changes
I love a new/different house
What I didn’t learn until I was an adult was that packing and unpacking is for the birds, lol!
I’m lucky to have so many amazing friends all over the country.
And now I’m quite content to stay in one place for a long time.
Because while I’m good at making new friends, I really love the community I’ve created here in Texas.
I guess what I’ve learned about myself is that I like equal doses of change and familiarity.
How about you? Did you grow up in just one place or have you moved a lot like I did?
